The lure of the East


Christine Riding is the Senior Curator and Head of Arts at the National Maritime Museum and before this was Curator of Eighteenth- and Nineteenth-century British Art at Tate Britain.  

In this text she introduces to the reader the origin and development of the Orientalism in British art , taking as element of study various themes of Orientalist paintings. The author described in the text the possible motivations and interpretations of the British painting in the Orient . The final result are a deep but simple text likely to appeal both to academics and well as to art enthusiasts . 'The Lure of the East shows in a good way the relationship of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Orientalist paintings in Britain .

Different parts of the text transmit to the reader the vast cultural information about Christine Riding . when she goes into orientalist portraiture , for example , Christine Riding writes not only about the usage of Eastern dress by . Orientalist paintings in Britain but also give you confidence to demonstrate the big impact it had in the British artistic development in a wider aspect . This essay really put together the points of the orientalism art and the psychological aspect of the audience of the text and the exhibition , giving the information and the cultural elements to provoke in the public a deeper level of insight in all this thematic .

  The American author of the book In The City of Bikes, Pete Jordan tries to explain the culture and experience he got from   Amsterdam, Netherlands on cycling.   Pete visits Amsterdam with the aim of staying for only one semester, but he is enticed by the city so quickly and soon he together with his wife decides to explore the city on two wheels.   The author tries to unfold the story of the cycling history in the town which he says it dates from the 1890’s. Elif Batuman is from Turkish parents born in New York in 1977, she is at the same time a Writer, an academic, and an journalist.
